AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)

What is California ADAP?

State program that provides HIV-related medications or medication co-pay assistance to individuals who meet eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria

HIV positive
California resident
Annual gross income less than $50,000
18 or more years old
Limited or no prescription drug benefits
US citizenship not required

Required Documentation

Photo ID
Proof of California residency: e.g. utility bill or rental agreement in own name
Letter of diagnosis from physician
CD4 and viral load lab results within last 6 months
Proof of income
Health insurance benefits card (if applicable)
Proof of Medi-Cal ineligibility: e.g. assets over $2,000; employed and not disabled

NOTE: Beginning March 2005, ADAP requires Medi-Cal referrals for potentially eligible clients. When you call to schedule an ADAP enrollment appointment, the ADAP counselor will review the Medi-Cal referral process with you. Individuals referred to Medi-Cal must follow all Medi-Cal application requirements for continued ADAP eligibility.
